life skills vs law cramming

Posted by: bartandlife on: November 9, 2008

In the notes on my about page, I noted that I came here to do more ‘living’ than merely learning the law.

That in mind, I dont want you guys to react too negatively to the admission that I’ve spent significantly more time here studying general learning techniques and cognitive principles than I have learning the law.

Before you start bawling about how my priorities are mixed up, consider the bigger picture: I’m now learning skills that will serve me for life whereas the information gathered in the LLB will immediately be replaced in the near future by training at law school and work experience. To my mind, I’d say my priorites are pretty darn straight.

As a result of all my interest in learning to learn, I can now confidently say that I am now significantly more aware of the value to be derived from:

  • mindmapping
  • speed reading
  • various memorising techniques

On that note, I’d like to big up Tony Buzan. You book dem badder dan when Kieva and Mad Michelle plit and dutty wine like a nuh nutten! I’m currently reading ‘Use Your Memory’ and ‘Use Your Head’ and I can’t help but feeling my verandah commentator side eye moving in the direction of the Ministry of Education. As I said before, this is the kind of thing we should be teaching in our schools!

Tony Buzan book dem badder dan dah girl yah!
